Day 1
Often called the "Key West of the North," Put-In-Bay features historic sites and breathtaking water views. Off the shores of Lake Erie on South Bass Island lies Put-In-Bay, a quaint Ohio village accessible by ferry. Join our group as we motor to this nearby summer playground. On the way we will break for lunch at a local favorite hidden gem. We'll enjoy three nights at the Hampton Inn in Maumee, OH then hub & spoke to area attractions.
Day 2
This morning we head a little further east with a photo stop at Marblehead Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in continuous operation on the U.S. side of the Great Lakes. Delight in the excellent views of Lake Erie, Sandusky Bay, Kelley's Island and South Bass Island. Later this morning we arrive at the Jet Express Terminal in Port Clinton, OH. Board the high-speed catamaran into Sandusky Bay and enjoy all-weather seating or open-air if you prefer. You will pass seven Lake Erie islands on this narrated voyage to South Bass Island. Upon our arrival we'll board a tram for a driving tour of the island. You'll have a Ship to Shore Passport which affords you admission to Crystal Cave, included lunch, the Perry Monument, the local winery for a complimentary glass of island-made wine and several other stops. Enjoy The Boardwalk for dining and drinking options many complete with casual nautical décor for a real summer experience. Spend the day getting to know Put-In-Bay, the biggest city on South Bass Island. Later we return dockside and head to 1812 Food & Spirits for an included dinner before returning to our hotel for much needed rest.
Day 3
After breakfast we'll travel to the east side of Toledo to visit the National Museum of the Great Lakes. Operated by the Great Lakes Historical Society, the museum celebrates the natural and built heritage of the North American Great Lakes from a U.S. perspective. Its most notable achievement is the docking location for the S.S. Col. James M. Schoonmaker Lake freighter and your visit includes this fascinating attraction.
Depart for Fort Meigs, named after J. Meigs Jr. for his support in providing General William Henry Harrison with militia during the War of 1812. Explore the waterfront for lunch on your own, prior to your excursion on the Volunteer Canal Boat. Travel back in time, a simpler time, when the pace of life was 4 Mph - the speed limit on the Miami & Erie Canal at Providence Metropark. The Volunteer is an authentic reproduction of the type of boats that once carried cargo and people between Toldeo and Cincinnati.
Tonight, our Farewell Dinner this evening will be at a local eatery.
Day 4
Enjoy your final breakfast at the property before joining up with the group for our return voyage back home.
