Weekend Getaway - St. George Island

Embrace the laid-back pace, unspoiled nature, and sugar-white sand beaches of St George Island, a 22-mile barrier island located in the Apalachicola region off the coast of the Florida Panhandle. This old Florida getaway offers a refreshing change of scenery and connection with nature. Immerse yourself in the serene Gulf Coast lifestyle.

 

First stop on Thursday is Wakulla Springs State Park where you will embark on a 45-55 minute boat tour with a box-lunch included. Next destination is The Buccaneer Inn, Eastpoint FL. The Buccaneer is conveniently located on the beach and within walking distance of local restaurants and shops or you can rent a golf cart to get around. Dinner is on your own Thursday evening. The stunning colorful hues of the setting sun provide excellent photo ops.

 

On Friday morning, discover the diverse ecosystems of the region while visiting the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve. After the Reserve, join the festivities at the 62nd Annual Seafood Festival in Battery Park. Enjoy fresh Florida seafood and festival activities. Later in the afternoon, a tour through the Raney House Museum exposes you to history of the area. Dinner is on your own Friday evening.

 

Spend your day relaxing on Saturday (beach day!) and resting up for a fabulous meal and dancing at Paddy’s Raw Bar. Live music is provided on Saturday. Paddy’s specializes in seafood sourced directly from the nearby waters of Apalachicola Bay. The menu also includes non-seafood choices.

 

Depart early Saturday morning for your journey home, stopping for lunch at the Golden Corral in our state capitol, Tallahassee.

Day 1

Florida Panhandle. Your weekend getaway is a blend of mellow leisurely activities, amazing scenic views and lively local experiences.

Our first stop is Wakulla Springs State Park where we will embark on a 45-55 minute boat tour with a box-lunch included. Leaving the Azalea picnic pavilion, we drive East to your beachfront accommodations at The Buccaneer Inn, Eastpoint FL. The Buccaneer is conveniently located within walking distance of local restaurants and shops. Dinner is on your own Thursday evening. The stunning colorful hues of the setting sun provide an excellent opportunity for photos.

Day 2

On Friday morning, discover the diverse ecosystems of the region while visiting the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve. After the Reserve, join the festivities at the 61st Annual Seafood Festival in Battery Park. Enjoy fresh Florida seafood! Activities mentioned are: oyster eating contest, oyster shucking contest, festival parade at 10 am, Blessing of the Fleet, Redfish Run, Blue Crab Races, arts and crafts.

Day 3


Saturday - Spend your day relaxing on Saturday (beach day!) and resting up for a fabulous meal and dancing at Paddy’s Raw Bar. Live music is provided on Saturday. Sunday - Depart early morning for your journey home, stopping for lunch at the Golden Corral in our state capitol Tallahassee.
