Day 1: Chicago
Begin your adventure with a comfortable motorcoach ride to Chicago. Enjoy a relaxed windshield tour featuring Millennium Park and "The Bean" where you can take photos, feel the smooth metal, and hear the city’s lively echoes.
Glide along the Chicago River on an architecture cruise guided by experts who share stories of the skyline’s past, present, and future. Experience the reflections of the buildings in the water and the gentle motion of the boat.
Dinner is included at Berghoff’s, where the rich aromas of classic German-American cuisine evoke the city’s culinary history.
Afterward, check in to the Hampton Inn Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile and enjoy a free evening to explore the neighborhood at your own pace.
Day 2: Pontiac
Depart Chicago and travel to Joliet to meet your Route 66 Roadie. Pass through Wilmington, visiting Elwood Park, Abraham Lincoln Cemetery, and Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie.
Stop at the Gemini Giant for photos and lunch at Wilmington House Family Restaurant. Journey onward to Pontiac, pausing at the Braidwood Polka Dot Drive-In and Wally’s, a classic pit stop filled with memorabilia, snacks, and a playful roadside atmosphere.
Explore the Pontiac Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum, featuring vintage vehicles including Bob Waldmire’s iconic VW Bus.
End the day with a trolley tour of Pontiac’s murals and dinner at Dwight Family Restaurant, celebrating recipes passed through generations. Overnight at Hampton Inn Pontiac.
DAY 3: Springfield
Travel toward Bloomington/Normal, stopping at Ryburn Place (formerly Sprague’s Station). Continue to Atlanta, IL, for lunch at Country-Aire Restaurant and a visit to the American Giants Museum. En route to Springfield, visit Shea’s Gas Station and Motorheads Bar & Grill, celebrating Route 66’s legacy and nostalgic Americana.
Dinner tonight is a Taste of Springfield at the Horseshoe Buffet, featuring classic Midwestern favorites like corn dogs, Maid-Rite sliders, Midwest Caprese salad, Mel-O-Cream donut holes with caramel, and homemade root beer. After dinner, enjoy the neon spectacle of the Route 66 Experience, a self-guided tour through 92 Illinois communities featuring vintage billboards, drive-in theaters, neon sign parks, and Muffler Men tributes. Overnight at Crowne Plaza Springfield.
DAY 4: St. Louis
Start the day with a two-hour visit to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, enjoying interactive exhibits, tactile displays, and historical presentations.
Continue to Litchfield for lunch at Ariston’s Restaurant, a Route 66 landmark known for pies and timeless charm.
Arrive in St. Louis for the Gateway Arch experience; ride the tram to the top for sweeping city and river views.
Check in to Union Station Hotel. Dinner is on your own, with multiple restaurants nearby or in the hotel.
DAY 5: St. Louis
After breakfast,we begin with an exclusive "Route 66 for Beginners" session with Joe Sonderman, St. Louis historian and collector, sharing postcards, photos, and stories of the Mother Road.
Travel to Chain of Rocks Bridge and explore Route 66 State Park, including a stop at the historic 1935 Bridgehead Inn.
Savor a classic St. Louis treat at Ted Drewes Frozen Custard, and visit St. Louis’ oldest soda fountain for the "Heart-Stopping BLT" with four inches of bacon.
Dinner is included at Blueberry Hill, a music and nostalgia landmark where Chuck Berry performed.
DAY 6: Home
After breakfast, relax on the motorcoach for the journey back to Wisconsin. Watch small towns, vintage roadside signs, and open landscapes pass by, savoring the sights and memories of the Mother Road. Reflect on the music, flavors, and stories that brought Route 66 to life. Enjoy the gentle pace, the simple pleasures, and the nostalgia of a classic road trip.
