Your first stop is Wakulla Springs State Park where we will embark on a 45-55 relaxing Jungle Cruise through one of the largest and deepest freshwater springs in the world (box lunch included). The Buccaneer Inn, Eastpoint FL, the island's only beachfront hotel, is your next destination and is conveniently located within walking distance of local restaurants and shops. Rent a golf cart if you prefer to drive. Dinner is on your own Friday evening. The stunning colorful hues of the setting sun provide an excellent opportunity for photos.
On Saturday morning, discover the diverse ecosystems of the region while visiting the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve, Eastpoint, FL. The 246,000-acre reserve is a protected area dedicated to the study, preservation, and stewardship of the unique estuarine and coastal ecosystems in the Apalachicola Bay region. Dinner and live music is planned for the evening at Paddy's Raw Bar. Paddy's specializes in seafood sourced directly from the nearby waters of Apalachicola Bay.
In the morning on Sunday, depart for your journey home, stopping at the Golden Corral for lunch in our state capital Tallahassee.
Day 1
Your first stop is Wakulla Springs State Park where you will embark on a guided 45-55 minute relaxing Jungle Cruise through one of the largest and deepest freshwater springs in the world (box lunch included). The next stop is the Buccaneer Inn, the island's only beachfront hotel, conveniently located within walking distance of local restaurants and shops. Rent a golf cart if you wish to drive. Dinner is on your own Friday evening. Make time to embrace the breathtaking palette of colors as the sun sinks toward the horizon.
LDay 2
Saturday morning, discover the diverse ecosystems of the region while visiting the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve, Eastpoint, FL. The 246,000 acre reserve is a protected area dedicated to the study, preservation, and stewardship of the unique estuarine and coastal ecosystems in the Apalachicola Bay region. After exploring the Research Reserve our bus will take us to Apalachicola, one of the most historic cities in Florida having been enhabited by Native Americans, Spanish, and English settlers. The city's seafood industry is as important today as it was more than 175 years ago with oysters being one the areas largest harvests along with shrimp. Now, as before, fishermen laden with shrimp, oysters and fish dock along the riverfront to unload bushels of fresh seafood onto the docks much as their ancestors did years ago. Tonight we'll sample some of that fresh seafood at Paddy's Raw Bar which specializes in seafood fresh from the nearby waters and lively music to enjoy.
DDay 3
On Sunday we'll begin our journey home stopping at the Golden Corral for lunch in our state capitol Tallahassee.
