Experience the breathtaking beauty of Horicon Marsh, the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the United States, on this unforgettable fall day trip.

Morning: Scenic Boat Tour

We begin our adventure in Horicon, where we’ll board the Horicon Marsh Boat for a narrated one-hour sightseeing tour. As we cruise along the Rock River, we’ll wind through a portion of this vast 33,000-acre marsh, shaped thousands of years ago by glaciers. Keep your eyes peeled for great blue herons, sandhill cranes, and over 290 species of birds that call this sanctuary home. During autumn, the marsh becomes a rest stop for thousands of migrating Canadian geese and ducks—a spectacular sight for nature lovers. Don’t forget your binoculars!

Lunch at Ginger’s Hide-Away

After our cruise, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at Ginger’s Hide-Away, a charming and cozy restaurant featuring hand-painted wildlife murals that celebrate the beauty of Wisconsin’s natural landscapes.

Afternoon: Horicon Marsh Education & Visitor Center

Following lunch, we’ll explore the Horicon Marsh Education & Visitor Center’s Explorium, where history and nature come to life. This interactive experience takes us on a journey through time, from the Ice Age to the present, showcasing how glaciers carved the landscape and how the marsh evolved into a world-renowned bird and wildlife sanctuary. Engaging exhibits—including narrated displays, hands-on activities, and even sensory experiences—provide an immersive look at the marsh’s transformation over thousands of years.

Whether you’re a bird-watching enthusiast, a history buff, or simply someone who loves the great outdoors, this Horicon Marsh adventure promises a day filled with natural beauty, fascinating history, and unforgettable memories.
